Re: REQUEST TO MONITOR 1744-06 RS OPHIUCHI FOR MULTIWAVELENGTH CAMPAIGN
Object: 1744-06 RS OPH
Coordinates: R.A. 17h 50m 13.202s Dec. -06o 42' 28.48" (2000.0)
In AAVSO Alert Notice 340, observations of RS Oph were requested by Dr. Mark
Wagner an colleagues in support of multiwavelength observations to be made
with the Chandra, Spitzer, and Swift satellites. I stated that the times of
Swift observations were not available but that the satellite would be
observing RS Oph about once a week. This frequency was not correct.
Dr. Julian Osborne, University of Leicester and Swift team lead, has informed
me that Swift will be observing RS Oph every 14 days, as it has done since
July, until the observing window closes on the star in late October. Here
is the schedule of future Swift observation dates for RS Oph (subject to
change by a day or so, depending on GRBs and other planning considerations)
provided by Dr. Osborne:
Fri Sep 01 10 ksec
Fri Sep 15 10 ksec
Fri Sep 29 10 ksec
Fri Oct 13 10 ksec
Fri Oct 27 10 ksec
Alert Notice 340 requested nightly monitoring throughout September and
concentrated observations on the Chandra and Spitzer observation dates and
times. Please continue your nightly observations until RS Oph is no longer
observable for the season. Also, CCD observers are requested to carry out
time series observations (as specified in Alert Notice 340) on the Swift
observing dates through October.
Many thanks, and good observing!
