 1. HUBBLE SPACE TELESCOPE CAMPAIGN - UPDATE BY JAM, PAH

We have been informed by Dr. B. Gaensicke at the University of Southampton,
UK that the Space Telescope Imaging Spectroscope (STIS) aboard the Hubble Space
Telescope is scheduled to expand its program of ultraviolet spectrocopy of
dwarf novae (See News Flash #1040 and CCD Views October Special Edition).

The following three new HST observations have been planned:

  UMa 5 Oct 18 2002 08:56:24 - 09:42:47 UT (aka CW1045+525)
  V503 Cyg Oct 24 2002 15:46:35 - 16:22:54 UT
  BZ UMa Oct 25 2002 04:17:39 - 04:56:39 UT

The AAVSO has existing charts for V503 CYG and has placed online
new f-scale charts with full CCD data for UMa 5 and BZ UMa. They can
all be downloaded at /observing/charts/

All CCD Observers: Please observe these objects several times per
night with a V filter. During the HST scheduled observations
please take as many high quality images as possible in V.

Optical brightness estimates obtained close in time to the HST
pointings would be very helpful to determine the state of the systems.

On October 11 and 13 (UT) UV Per and AF Cam were observed in the same
project. Special thanks to the following for sending in CCD observations
during and around the HST observation times:

                Glenn Chaple (CGF)
                Michael Koppelman (KMP)
                Arto Oksanen (OAR)
                Ron Zissell (ZRE)
                William Goff (GFB)
                Keith Graham (GKA)
                Bill Dillon (DIL)

 Thanks guys!

Please observe and report your data to the AAVSO as soon as possible.

 2. ADMINISTRIVIA

Beginning with this issue we are beginning a numbering scheme for
archiving CCD Views newsletters. In the past we used a "Vol. No." system
for the official bimonthly editions and would put out unnumbered "Special
Editions" when timely information needed to be presented. We need a
change to take into account the increased number of "Special Editions" and
increased content in general.

So now each CCD Views will be numbered incrementally and issued as
needed, instead of bimonthly. We chose to begin the numbering with 312
because this is the third volume of CCD Views (the first volume was a
printed edition, the second volume was last year) and the twelfth
electronic edition. The next issue will be 313, followed by 314, and so on
regardless of when they are published or content.

As always, all issues are archived online at
http://www.aavso.org/ccdviews/

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

CCD Views is published bimonthly and when circumstances warrant
via e-mail. An archive is available at http://www.aavso.org/ccdviews/ .
Please send comments and suggestions to aaronp@aavso.org.

To receive CCD Views via e-mail send a message to
majordomo@aavso.org with "subscribe ccdviews" in the body of the
e-mail. To unsubscribe, place "unsubscribe ccdviews" in the e-mail.

The AAVSO has many free online publications including "Eyepiece
Views", a similar newsletter intended for visual observers. To learn
more and subscribe visit: http://www.aavso.org/mailinglists.stm

 Good observing!
