That mentor coordinator has been Dan Kaiser for as long as I can remember. Dan has been a longtime supporter of the AAVSO, submitting observations, attending meetings, running the mentor program, and of course rising through the ranks to be one of our best Presidents. Dan has decided to concentrate on other activities for a while (ask and so has asked to step down from the mentoring program. Luckily, this occurred just about the same time that Mike Simonsen came to me, asking if he could get more involved in teaching new AAVSO members and beginning variable star observers. So I've accepted Dan's resignation, and asked Mike to step up to the plate. I think Mike will do an excellent job as a Mentor Program Coordinator, especially with the help and guidance of Dan (who will be at the Rockford meeting, by the way). I think the AAVSO members owe Dan a round of applause for the vast amount of help and friendship he has offered new members for all of these years. Now, we have to print new pink sheets...
