Interpolation Exercises
These are some examples showing how to interpolate between comparison stars to determine the magnitude of the variable. Remember that in the real world, the stars all appear as points of light, not as disks of different sizes. The stars used for the interpolation in each example below are marked with arrows. For more on interpolation, try using the, "Variable Star Telescope Simulator" - a dynamic presentation on how to make variable star magnitude estimates. | Magnitude 5.2 | | | Magnitude 7.1 | | Magnitude 6.1 | Magnitude 8.9 | | Magnitude 6.5 | Magnitude <9.0 ("fainter-than"9.0) |
