This is the last issue of the AAVSO News Flash in its present format. An automatic publication - AAVSO's MyNewsFlash - with more customized features and serving you seven days a week will be taking its place. We started to issue the AAVSO News Flash on February 26, 1996. In the 1214 issues that were published we informed our readership of the activity of variable stars (mostly cataclysmic variables), the special monitoring requested by our professional colleagues, discoveries of novae and supernovae, and the rare or unusual activity of variable stars. We were able to bring this information to you thanks to the dedicated efforts of our observers worldwide who provided the observations. We acknowledge their contribution with gratitude. My (J.A.M.) very sincere thanks to Rebecca Pellock for the Herculean job she has done to prepare and send out the News Flashes. The efficiency and the accuracy of her work is remarkable. My sincere thanks to technical staff members, Gamze Menali, Kerri Malatesta, and and Elizabeth O. Waagen, who helped Rebecca when she was away and couldn't issue the News Flashes. Special thanks to our webmaster Kate Davis for placing the News Flashes on the AAVSO website and to Aaron Price for writing the computer programs to accomplish this. If you have not yet sighed up to receive the MyNewsFlashes don't forget to do so. We look forward to receiving the observations from our observers and relaying the information to the subscribers of MyNewsFlashes. Again our sincere thanks to all the observers who contributed to the 1214 issues of the News Flash. Janet A.
