(http://www.aavso.org) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1903-50 APPARENT SUPERNOVA 1998dq IN NGC 6754 We have been informed by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams (IAU Circular 6998) that Brett White, Linden, New South Wales, Australia, has visually discovered an apparent supernova about 18 seconds west of the nucleus of NGC 6754 on August 23.4 UT. Visual confirmation was obtained by R. Evans, Hazelbrook, NSW, who observed the object at visual magnitude 14.3. B. Schmidt reports a precise position of the object as: R.A. = 19h 11m 23.78s Decl. = -50deg 38' 25.5" (equinox 2000) An AAVSO Alert Notice (No. 251) will be issued tomorrow that will include more information and AAVSO charts for this apparent supernova. The charts and Alert Notice will be posted on the AAVSO web page.
