1151-65 POSSIBLE NOVA IN MUSCA
We have been informed by William Liller, Vina del Mar, Chile of his
photographic discovery, using the PROBLICOM method, of a possible nova in
Musca. His photograph was taken with an 85-mm camera, using Technical Pan
film and an organe filter on December 29.3090 and December 29.3123 UT and
shows an object of magnitude 8.5, located at R.A. = 11h56.2m, Decl. =
-65d34' (equinox 2000.0). CCD observation of the object with broad V filter
indicated it to be at magnitude 9.45 on December 30.1465 UT, using
comparison stars from the Guide Star Catalog. Nothing brighter than 11.5
appeared on the photograph on December 20.
A CCD image of the field, taken by William Liller on December 30 and
showing the comparison stars with their Tycho V magitudes, will be posted
on our website.
