Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by M. Aoki, Tsukioka, Toyama, Japan, of an apparent supernova in NGC 3949 at CCD magnitude 14.3 on a CCD image taken Aug. 6.498 UT. The object was confirmed by Aoki at magnitude 14.3 on six unfiltered CCD frames taken Aug. 7.444, using an 0.43-m f/6.0 reflector + CCD and an automated supernova survey system developed by Aoki. No star is present at this location down to magnitude 18.5 on Aoki's 19 frames taken between 1996 and May 2000. The supernova is located at: R.A. = 11h 53m 39s.75, Decl. = +47 degrees 51' 46".6 (equinox 2000), which is 20" northwest of the center of the galaxy. An AAVSO preliminary chart for SN 2000db is being prepared and will be posted on the AAVSO website. Congratulations to M. Aoki on his latest discovery! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0130+50 KT PERSEI The dwarf nova type (Z CAM subclass) cataclysmic variable KT PER is in outburst, as indicated by the following observations: AAVSO Observer AAVSO Observer UT Mag.
