0203+56A UV Per Outburst

AAVSO Newsflash Special Notice (November 4, 2003)
0203+56A UV Per (UGSU) appears to be in outburst according to
the following observations (UT):

NOV 02.2330,<14.9 (CMP - R. Campbell, Holiday, Florida)
NOV 03.9604,<14.7 (MUY - E. Muyllaert, Oostende, Belgium)
NOV 04.0660,<14.3 (MGH - H., McGee, Surrey, England)
     NOV 04.7670, 11.5 (SPK - P. Schmeer, Germany)
NOV 04.9400, 11.8 CCD Unfiltered (VMT - T. Vanmuster, Landen, Belgium)

The first outburst report was by P. Schmeer (Germany). CCD
confirmation of the outburst was provided by Tonny Vanmunster
(CBA Belgium Observatory). He adds, "I have just finished a quick
(rough) photometric analysis on my first 300 unfiltered CCD images of
UV Per (obtained between 18h59m UT and 22h30m UT on Nov 4,
2003). The light curve is not showing any periodic modulation
so far, indicating that the present outburst is either a normal
one, or a superoutburst detected at the very early stage of
development."

According to the AAVSO International Database, the last
outburst of UV Per peaked at around mag 11.5 on December 24,
2000 (2451903) and slowly faded over about 13 days. However, in
1989 and 1996 UV Per experienced an outburst followed by a
superoutburst and then a post superoutburst brightening
resulting in 3 different light curve peaks.

Please observe UV Per closely and report your observations to
the AAVSO as soon as possible. If you have the equipment,
multicolor CCD time series photometry is also requested.
