U Gem Outburst
AAVSO Newsflash Special Notice (March 10, 2004)
Dear Observers,
You have been doing a tremendous job in closely monitoring U Gem since
September and during the current outburst - many, many thanks! Dr. Cannizzo
informs us that the RXTE satellite has been heavily observing U Gem during
the outburst and will continue to observe it heavily for at least another week.
We have been updating Dr. Cannizzo with your excellent observations, and he
is most appreciative of the data and your efforts.
It is essential to continue to have very good optical coverage of U Gem as
it declines from maximum and returns to minimum. Please continue your
close monitoring of U Gem through the rest of the outburst and for a few
weeks after it returns to minimum, and report your observations to AAVSO
Headquarters.
Again, many thanks for your efforts and astronomical contributions!
Good observing,
Elizabeth O. Waagen, Interim Director
on behalf of
Janet A. Mattei, Director
