The Award Goes To...

Dear AAVSO Members,

On behalf of the officers and the 18,000 members of the Astronomical League, I am pleased to announce that AAVSO member, Charles Scovil, has won the Leslie Peltier Award for 2000. This award is presented once a year at our award banquet and is given for outstanding achievements in the field of amateur astronomy and observations.

Charles Scovil
Longtime AAVSO member Charles Scovil won this year's Leslie Peltier Award for excellence in the field of amateur astronomy.
There is no doubt that all AAVSO members and observers have been amazed by the sheer number of highly accurate AAVSO star charts created by "Chaz." His support of AAVSO and amateur astronomy, in general, is a wonder for all to behold. Immediate past League President and long time AAVSO member, Barry Beaman presented the award to Charles at our awards banquet on July 22, 2000 in Ventura,California.

We are honored to present this award to Charles, a most deserving winner.

Bob Gent, AAVSO Member
AAVSO Member/ Vice-President, Astronomical League
