A possible nova in Centaurus was discovered by G. Pojmanski et al.
of the ASAS-3 project (vsnet-alert 10482). The existence of the
bright transient (V=8.3 at maximum) has been confirmed, but the
object has not been definitively classified as a Nova. It was
first detected by ASAS-3 on 2008 August 26.045 (JD 2454704.545)
at V=9.971, and rose to V=8.385 by 2008 August 30.040 (JD
2454708.540). Pending classification, the AAVSO requests
observations of this new object. An AAVSO Alert Notice will
be issued if and when the object is classified as a Nova.
A sequence for the field was prepared by M. Morel (AVSON #1328,
and private communication) and has been uploaded to the AAVSO
VSP. Both visual observations and instrumental photometry are
encouraged.
