One of the premiere pro-am collaboration meetings each year
is the Symposium on Telescope Science held by the Society for
Astronomical Sciences. During two days of sessions anyway from
20-30 papers are presented covering a wide range of science
being done by backyard astronomers, either independently or in
collaboration with professionals. Also heard are presentations
by professionals that detail past collaboration effort or solicit
help for future work.
The 2013 Symposium will be held on May 21-24 in Big Bear, CA.
Tuesday, May 21, will be dedicated to two half-day workshops.
The subject for those is still being determined. Wednesday and
Thursday (May 22, 23) are dedicated to paper and poster
The banquet is held Thursday evening. The 2013 guest speaker has
not been set but past presenters have included Dava Sobel, Don
Yeomans, Peter Jenniskens, and other notables in astronomy.
You can download proceedings from past meetings and view videos

We are now accepting abstracts for the 2013 meeting. Submission
is via the abstract submission page on the SAS web site only.
The link is case-sensitive, so it's best to copy/paste the above
URL into your browser.
These submissions are _not_ the final abstracts (those in the papers
are), so don't worry if the wording isn't perfect or you have all
the fine details in place. We're looking to see who wants to present
a talk/paper or just a poster, at the topic to determine if it's
suitable (virtually always is), and how to schedule the program.
Abstracts are due by March 16, 00:00 UT (or March 15 in the U.S.).
Final papers for accepted abstracts will be due April 16, 00:00 UT
(April 15 in the U.S. File your SAS paper and _then_ your taxes).
If you'd like more information, please contact the SAS program committee
by sending an email to
We hope to see you in Big Bear.
