Symbiotic CH Cygni

We recently released a significant update to the backend systems for the AAVSO website. While most of the bugs introduced by this update have been fixed, there may still be problems we haven't fixed. If you run into a problem, please email webmaster@aavso.org

The symbiotic star CH Cygni is currently raising in luminosity (Mag V about 7.6) and shows an active state spectrum

Note especially oxygen lines [OI] 6300 and [OIII] 5007 and numerous Fe II emission lines.

thanks for the  "heads up" François.

In case readers are not aware,  CH Cyg was the subject of a short amateur spectroscopy campaign at a range of resolutions last year.

My Alpy 600 spectrograph collected its first star light last night and CH Cyg seemed an appropriate and not too difficult target to start with. There are some new skills to learn to get the best results compared with high resolution spectroscopy but am pleased with the excellent repeatablity in this sequence of 5  20 min exposures. More details of the setup and data reduction here
