Hi,

I am having an issue with Transform Generator v 5.7. I recently upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to  Windows 10. Now when I start Transform Generator, a small black screen appears before the main screen. This did not happen with Windows 7. I still have Windows 7 on my PC, and when I start TG on that computer, only the main screen appears – no small black screen. Any suggestions as to how I can get rid of the black screen?

Thanks,

Get rid of black screen

Hello Keith

The best way to get rid of the black screen is to dump Windows 10.  You may not have had a choise, but I never use the latest and greatest stuff until it is proven to be bug proof.  Its just asking for problems.  I am still running Windows 7, and will until an issue comes up that forces me to change.  "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" has served me well.  I expect to continue with Windows 7 until about Windows 14 comes out.

TG and Windows 10

I also upgraded to Windows 10 and don't have any problems.  I'm guessing one of two things -

1.  Check the TG file name - is it TransformGenerator_V5.7.pyw   - or does the file end in .py?  If it is currently a .py file, change it to .pyw and start again.

2.  Check that you are starting Python with the pythonw.exe file, not the python.exe file...

Also, if you have a startup icon, right click and select "Properties".  Compare to the file attached to this message and see if there are any differences.

Let me know ...

TG & Windows 10

Hi Gordon,

The pythonw.exe suggestion did the trick. I had to tell TG to always use this file to open it and that worked. And the icon properties match. Thanks for the advice.

Gary, I wholeheartedly agree with you about new Windows upgrades. I installed 10 on my laptop so I could play with it to see what it will and will not do (my laptop is my play toy). I still have 7 on my PC that I use for my serious work and will not put 10 on it until I read more reviews on it and am confident that it will hold up. I have a year to see what the results will be. So far it appears to work just fine (and even a bit faster than 7).  BTW-don’t hold your breath for 14. Rumor has it that 10 is the final version. MS apparently will continue upgrades to it in perpetuity. That said, there are certainly no guarantees of that claim.

Cheers,

Keith

Nothing after windows 10!

Hello Keith

You might be right about Windows 10 being the end of the line.  They could always go to Safari!smiley
