Poster Presentation Abstracts

Please note: Posters may be presented in person or online. In-person poster presenters are still expected to  provide an electronic copy for AAVSO staff to display on the website. (More info below.)

If you are interested in providing a poster presentation, please follow the instructions below for submitting an abstract

(Submitting an abstract does not guarantee you a slot)

  • Register for the Annual Meeting (registration opens this summer) prior to submitting your abstract for either an oral or poster presentation.
  • Your presentation must be focused on scientific research, history, or education.
  • Include all items described on this checklist in your abstract, or it will be returned.
  • Email your abstract as a Word document to Kris Larsen at with the subject line "AAVSO Abstract" by September 10, 2021. (We suggest submitting it early: if revision is requested by the reviewing committee, you may submit a revision, which still must be received by the Sept. 10th deadline).
  • For abstract examples, please go here.

For those whose presentation abstract is accepted (whether for online or in person):

  • Email your poster in .pdf form (to do this: create your poster in a single Powerpoint slide, then save it as a pdf) to by October 15, 11:59 p.m. EST. Include in the email: your name and any contact info you wish to provide to the public.
    • We encourage poster presenters to also provide one audio OR video recording for their poster session. Videos may only be of you speaking and/or your poster.
      • Audio-only files must be in .m4a format, a maximum of 10 minutes, and no larger than 40 MB, unless linking to an online publicly-available recording on a third-party site.
      • Video with audio must be in .mp4 format, a maximum of 10 minutes, and no larger than 40 MB, unless linking to an online publicly-available recording on a third-party site
    • If your email prevents you from sending a file of this size, please email Lindsay ( to let her know, and you will be sent information for uploading it to a Dropbox folder.
