Abstract

(Abstract only) Taking data with a CCD has become very easy these days. One can simply type in a few commands to the associated computer system and, like magic, a digital image appears in memory on on disk. Except in cases of simply taking an image to "see" it, one must have a basic understanding of the noise sources associated with CCD data and the rationale for and proper application of data reduction. The most important noise sources are briefly discussed and the audience are led through a step-by-step data reduction example.
