Hi,

Hi,

On my Ubuntu 18 desktop I use Firefox.  I just go to http://aavso.org/vstar and click the download vstar blue button.  It loads vstar with webstart and starts executing it.

vstar.jnlp

Is a file called vstar.jnlp downloaded to your Downloads folder?

If so, you can try double-clicking that.

If that doesn't work it may be because the javaws application isn't included in your default Java installation, e.g. see https://blog.hostonnet.com/jnlp

As Tom says, as an alternative, you can download the application archive and run it directly (so long as you have a Java installation):

https://sourceforge.net/projects/vstar/files/

VStar download

I belive I had the same problem with VStar not loading/starting with the browser.  My workaround was to download VStar from SourceForge and start it via the shell command I noted above.

Works for me.

I have VStar on my Ubuntu 18.4 laptop, and it works OK for me. I downloaded it a while back, so don't remember the process in detail, but I recall it being easy enough. I clicked the blue download button, and somehow a short cut appeared eventually on my desktop, and now I just click on that. VStar does run on the latest version of Java, so the only advice I can think of is to check to be sure you have a way to run Java prorams, and make sure it is up to date. I hope you can get it to work, VStar is nifty!
