W28 was one of the original AAVSOnet telescopes, operational at Tom Kracji's observatory from 2009 through 2012.  It is currently in storage in Flagstaff, as the OTA corrector is cracked.  Altogether, 443 nights of data were collected.  I've been looking at the data one last time.

While many projects were supported with this setup (C11 OTA; CGE mount; ST7XME camera), Tom took particular interest in obtaining time series for Dr. Valentina (Valia) Kozyreva (Russia).  While I think she analyzed some of the W28 data, I'm not sure how many of the thousands of datasets were finally used, and I'm sure that none of the data made it to the AID.

If someone (or group of someones) would like to analyze this time series data, I think the images could be made available.  The W28 time series nights (Kozyreva + others) are given below.  I think several things would be useful:

1) what are each of these objects (and perhaps their main VSX names)?  Some might have been CVs or other targets, for example

2) was this data used in any paper or analysis?  Searching Simbad, especially for Kozyreva papers on the binaries, might help.

3) if unused, does anyone want to measure the images and/or analyze the data?

Arne

That sounds like an…

That sounds like an interesting project.  I certainly am interested in helping make the images available.  I'm pretty busy with another little AAVSOnet project just now, but would be interested in being one of the someones (accent on the plural) in a little while.

Results

HD313926 aka ASAS J180908-2128.5 created a nice phase plot with only the W28 images using the period from VSX.  WW_Tri did not cover nearly as much, but had nice images.  Both are uploaded to the AID.

I had difficulty with NSV_19498 not plate solving.  The images had no WCS initially.  Astrometry.net routines on occam had no luck nor did vphot.  I also tried astrometry.net with fine tuned plate scale and a small range of the sky - still no joy.  TSX image link also gave up.  I think there are just too few stars in that region of the sky and the small FOV.

W28 stars

Hi Arne,

I have been using W28 some times when Tom was still operating it.

I am interested in the followng stars:

ASAS_185038+4125.4 (8 nights V)

KV_Cnc (lots of nights BV)

V338_Boo (lots of nights VI)

XY_Boo (2 nights BVRI)

Those are RR Lyr stars (according to SIMBAD).

V0338 Boo

Just noticed this:

  • NSVS5222076 (22 nights VI). VSX says this is V338 Boo.. Dave Hurdis requested this, so data may be in AID.
  • V338_Boo (lots of nights VI). RRD, 0.494d period.  Dave Hurdis.  Adopted by Josch Hambsch

In case there is a risk of effort duplication.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Uploaded the results to AAVSO database

I have uploaded the results to the database where my name is mentioned.

Only ASAS_185038+4125.4 has to be re-analysed as important information is missing in the FITS header and Longitude information was wrongly stated in the FITS header resulting in large (>10)  airmasses.
