This page presents a partial listing of all literature using AAVSO data or resources. The majority of these listings were taken from the arXiv.org preprint archive, with others contributed directly by the authors themselves. It is intended to show the extent to which the observations of AAVSO observers are used in modern astronomical literature.
AAVSO data contributed by thousands of observers over decades is vital to variable star research. Annually, AAVSO Headquarters receives between 200-300 requests for data from researchers, members, observers, and educators. The AAVSO data are used extensively to correlate multi-wavelength observations of variable stars, to schedule ground-based and satellite observations, and for analysis of stellar behavior. Papers using AAVSO data are published by researchers, members, observers, and AAVSO staff. This page is an attempt to list these papers which are a testimony to the dedication and contribution of thousands of observers around the world who contribute data to the AAVSO International Database.
To make this list more complete, please send us references of any papers that we may have missed. If the paper is accessible online, we would also appreciate the URL of the source. If you're an author of a variable star paper, we strongly encourage you to submit your work to arXiv! This will make your paper accessible to the widest community possible, including non-traditional researchers and others not affiliated with organizations that subscribe to major research journals. Thank you for your help in making this list as complete as possible! We also request that authors submitting papers to AAS journals (AJ, ApJ, ApJL, and ApJS) include the "AAVSO" facilities keyword in their published manuscript.
In addition to this list, you can find a list of poster papers and talks given by AAVSO staff here.
Now available online!: Search and view the abstracts and read full scanned JAAVSO articles at the URL below!
Please note that this list does not include all papers published in the Journal of the American Association of Variable Star Observers (JAAVSO) or announcements published in the IAU Circular many of which are based entirely or substantially on AAVSO data. For access to the online Journal of the AAVSO, click here. You may also access the archives of our Alert Notices and Special Notices.
