Special Notice #387: EE Cep eclipse and comparison stars

July 24, 2014:The eclipse of EE Cep (AAVSO Alert Notice 502) appears to be gradually beginning, according to observations in the AAVSO International Database. Please observe this system according to the instructions given in the Alert Notice.

Regarding the comparison stars for this EE Cep campaign, please read the information in the Alert Notice. As given below, the Polish campaign underway identified comparison stars to be used. However, the R and I magnitudes they give are JOHNSON magnitudes. The AAVSO recommends using COUSINS filters for R and I observations.
The Cousins magnitudes are in the AAVSO photometry table for EE Cep.

IMPORTANT: If you use COUSINS filters to observe, please be sure to use COUSINS magnitudes to reduce your observations - do not use Johnson magnitudes to reduce Cousins data!!

Several observers have reported data to the AAVSO reduced in this way, and the data all have to be deleted, re-reduced, and resubmitted.

Coordinates:  RA 22 09 22.75 , Dec +55 45 24.2 (J2000)

Finder charts for EE Cep with sequence may be created using the AAVSO Variable Star Plotter (VSP, http://www.aavso.org/vsp). The AAVSO photometry table for EE Cep includes the four comparison stars suggested by Galan et al. for their campaign: 104 (000-BCQ-031), 112 (000-BCQ-029), 113 (000-BCQ-036), and 119 (000-BCQ-040). We recommend using one or more of these stars for performing photometry, and we encourage observers to use the AAVSO comparison star magnitudes found in VSP for these stars.
