AAVSO ALERT NOTICE 152 (January 6, 1992)

History of AAVSO Alert Notices and AAVSO Special Notices

Notifying observers and researchers of discoveries and requests for AAVSO observing assistance

Prior to the inception of the AAVSO Alert Notice in 1974, observers were alerted to a discovery or the need for observations of an object via a post card from AAVSO HQ or, if extremely urgent, a phone call from the Director or his/her assistant.

The AAVSO Alert Notice

Alert Notice 580: ASASSN-17fp rebrightening event and ongoing monitoring

May 24, 2017: ASASSN-17fp, discovered on 2017 April 28 and classified as a helium dwarf nova, was observed to be in outburst again on May 16 after fading 2.5 magnitudes from its original outburst. Dr. Tom Marsh (University of Warwick) and Dr. Elme Breedt (University of Cambridge) requested immediate time-series coverage.

Alert Notice 579: KIC 8462852 optical dipping event

Although this dip is over, the campaign is extended to request ongoing monitoring, as requested in Alert Notice 542 (20160408) and Alert Notice 532 (20151020). - June 2017

Alert Notice 578: Nova in Centaurus - ASASSN-17gk

May 23, 2017

Event: Nova in Centaurus - ASASSN-17gk

Discovered by: All Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN, (K. Z. Stanek (OSU) et al., ATel #10387)

Discovery magnitude: 10.9 V

Alert Notice 577: SN 2017eaw in NGC 6946 (PSN J20344424+6011359)

Correction: The original announcement of this Alert Notice included the incorrect assignment of observations made by David Boyd to David Blane. The attribution has been corrected in the observations below. We extend sincere apologies to David Boyd for the error. -- EOW  May 17, 2017

May 16, 2017

Event: SN 2017eaw - bright supernova in NGC 6946 (Cepheus)

Discovered by: Patrick Wiggins (Tooele, UT)

Alert Notice 576: Nova in Ophiuchus - TCP J17394608-2457555

May 11, 2017

Alert Notice 575: Monitoring of Swift J1357.2-0933 (CRTS J135716.8-093238) requested

April 28, 2017: Dr. Gregory Sivakoff (University of Alberta) has requested AAVSO observers' assistance in monitoring Swift J1357.2-0933 (CRTS J135716.8-093238) during its current outburst.

Alert Notice 574: Monitoring of EPIC 204278916 requested

April 25, 2017: Dr. Carlo Manara (ESA Science and Technology SCI-S, the Netherlands) and colleagues have requested AAVSO assistance in monitoring the young, disk-bearing low-mass (M type) pre-main-sequence star EPIC 204278916 (2MASS J16020757-2257467).

Alert Notice 573: V2492 Cyg monitoring requested in support of XMM observations

April 6, 2017 : Dr. Nicolas Grosso (CNRS, Observatoire Astronomique de Strasbourg) has requested AAVSO assistance in monitoring the young eruptive star (FUOR type) V2492 Cyg from the optical to the infrared in support of X-ray observations with XMM-Newton scheduled for 2017 April 18 UT.

The XMM observations will take place: 2017-04-18 03:27:07 UT - 2017-04-18 14:17:07 UT.
