Hello AAVSO members,

I am an amateur astronomer from India doing Photometry in my college as a project. I have taken photos from DSLR Canon 1100D on a tripod. The stars I had chosen were eclipsing binaries. All of them were short period stars with a time period of near about 10-12 days. I have got the data from the photos in the form of pixel brightness but I am unable to use to do further calculations based on this data. I would like to know what else I can infer from this data and what further calculations can be made.

Most of folks here use MaximDL, but price maybe a concern and that program is geared more towards CCD camera photometry. Hope your successful as we have very little sky coverage of variable stars at your longitude.

I would also be pleased if you or some one else verifies my complete process which I had followed in doing Photometry.

I have taken photos using DSLR Canon 1100D using a tripod. The images taken were stacked using Deep Sky Stacker taking the dark frames and light frames which I had ensured were correct from the histogram of flat frame. Then I had used that image in Astroart to do aperture photometry. I had used a comparison star which was bright enough and should have a constant magnitude ideally. This was done to take the atmospherical conditions into account for the main variable star. For example, beta-lyra's comparison star was Vega. We have plotted the points using matlab's polyfit function.

Is this complete process is scientifically correct?
