Is anyone in the group using SIRIL for photometry?

I have some questions and would appreciate some insight into the package. I understand that it is primarily an astroimage program, but now has photometric capabilities.

Thanks!

I’m using AIP4WIN for simple…

I’m using AIP4WIN for simple differential photometry and was mentoring a fellow using SIRIL. I use AIP’s single star photometry tool and do the math myself. I got the idea that SIRIL completely automated the process and only works multiple stars.

Does it allow a user to just measure instrumental magnitudes of single stars?

What are you working on with SIRIL? Is it better for particular tasks?

Thanks for responding. I’m hoping anyone having questions on this software will join in.

Hello, I've been using Siril…

Hello, I've been using Siril for astrophotography processing and explored using it for photometry, but couldn't really get enough understanding of how it works under the hood, so I've been learning AstroImageJ (AIP4Win does not run well on my Windows PC and after much frustration I gave up on it). I've been using Siril to convert my DSLR images into FITS files and separate the color channels, then taking the result into AstroImageJ. I haven't nailed down an ideal workflow yet, but working on it. If anyone has any insight into using SIRIL for the entire photometry process, please let me know.

Thanks

Using Siril for photometry

Hello,

i use Siril to do some photometry measures. The next release of the tool (formely release 1.3) will provide a tool to export data in aavso extended format. I worked personaly with Cyril Richard (one of the main developer of Siril) to validate things about this feature.

I like it because you have astrometry, adu measurements, comparaison stars, simbad catalog access and magnitude (instrumental and standard) in a single place.

Siril is entirely open source and you can check the calculus in the source files.

Hugues
