Year End Giving 2013
There are plenty of reasons and many ways to make a donation to the AAVSO this year.
(You can click on any of the live links or images on this page to make a contribution)
You can play Santa this year, and make a contribution to the AAVSO at the same time. When you make purchases through our amazon.com connection, 5% of your total purchase price is donated to the AAVSO as a commission from amazon.com.
Looking for a last minute gift for someone who shares your interest in astronomy?
This year you can “adopt” any variable star listed in VSX for $20.00. You are not buying a star, you are making a donation to the AAVSO.
When you adopt a star for a year you will get a star chart of that variable star and your name, or another name you designate, will appear in a list whenever a light curve of your star is created on the Light Curve Generator. A web page will list all the adopted stars and the donors who have adopted them. They will be listed alphabetically by constellation. Stars with no GCVS designation will be listed at the end of the list in alphanumerical order.
There is no limit to the number of variable stars a person can adopt. There is no limit to the number of people who can adopt a specific variable star. At the end of the period you will get a light curve of your star for the year, along with a reminder to renew your adoption if you'd like to do so.
This year we are giving you an incentive to make a substantial gift.
For donations of $150.00 or more you will receive a copy of Advancing Variable Star Astronomy, the history of the AAVSO from 1911-2011, signed by author Michael Saladyga and AAVSO Director, Arne Henden. This offer is good for as long as they last or until December 31, 2013.
Time is running out to make a tax deductible donation to the AAVSO for the 2013 tax year. A contribution to the AAVSO is deductible in the year in which it is paid.
A gift to the AAVSO may entitle you to a charitable contribution deduction against your income tax if you itemize deductions.
The actual cost of the donation is reduced by your tax savings. For example, if you are in the 33% tax bracket, the actual cost of a $100 donation is only $67 ($100 less the $33 tax savings). The actual cost to a person in the lowest bracket, 15%, for a $100 contribution is $85. For a person in the highest bracket, 35%, the actual cost is only $65.
THANK YOU (click for a list of 2013 benefactors)
Many of you have already given your time and treasure to the AAVSO this year. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you once more for helping to sustain and grow the organization. It is only with your participation and support that the AAVSO will thrive and meet our goals in the coming years.
If you haven't made a tax deductible donation in support of the AAVSO this year, there is still time. If you've never made a donation to the AAVSO before, let this year be the first time. Show that you care about the services we provide to the astronomical community and our members the world over, but DO IT NOW!
