The 2015 AAVSO Council Election

Tue, 09/15/2015 - 13:57

Dear friends,

The AAVSO's 2015-2016 Council election season is here, and members of the AAVSO are entitled -- and encouraged! -- to cast your vote. In place of paper balloting used in the past, the AAVSO is now conducting its elections via a secure online voting system.

Members of the AAVSO will shortly receive an email from our balloting provider (bigpulse.com) with a link to your personal ballot. This email is specifically addressed to each member, and contains a unique URL that is linked to your ballot.  Please follow the instructions in that email to cast your vote in the AAVSO election.  If you do not find an email from bigpulse.com in your mailbox, please check the following:

* make sure you are using the same email address as you used to register for the AAVSO Website

* make sure the email is not in your spam folder or other automated folders (like Gmail's "Promotions" folder).

Please note: Do not forward or share the email you receive from BigPulse. It contains a link to your personal ballot and may only be used once.

You may vote anytime between the following two dates:

* Poll open date: Tuesday 15 September 2015 12:00 EDT

* Poll close date: Saturday 14 November 2015 09:05 EST

Election results will be tallied and announced during the AAVSO's Annual Meeting in Woburn on Saturday, November 14.

You can read the statements of Candidates for AAVSO Council before you vote:

On the behalf of AAVSO Headquarters, thank you to our sitting Council, to all of the candidates who are standing for election, and to our Member community -- we depend on you all to keep the AAVSO strong!

Electronic voting

This has been an issue that Council has been debating for some time.  Thanks to Doug's suggestion for a provider and Stella's follow through, it has become a reality.  To all members, please take advantage of this incredibly simple way of choosing YOUR REPRESENTATIVES to our governing body.

Kudos for the new electronic voting method.  Fast and no paper - what's not to like?
