Special Notice #362: OR And and AX For obs critical now

July 8, 2013: The VY Scl variable OR And continues in its low state, so it has been scheduled for HST/COS observations. Based on your observations, the HST/COS team will be making the final decision tomorrow morning (2013 July 9) whether to observe OR And on:

OR And 2013 July 10 11:47:01 through 15:56:12 UT

OR And is ~18V in its low state and ~14.5V in its high state.

HST/COS is scheduled to observe the SU UMa variable AX For on the next day:

AX For 2013 July 11 20:42:38 through 01:49:57 UT

The team will be making its decision on July 10. AX For is 18.5V at minimum and 12.2V at maximum. It went into outburst on July 5 in what appears to be a normal outburst, so it should be back at minimum by the 11th. Please monitor both of these systems closely through July 12.

Following OR And and AX For, the next targets are HS2214+2845 and 1RXS J213807.1+261958 (OT J213806.6+261957):

HS2214+2845 2013 July 18 21:08:59 through 01:04:23 UT
1RXS J213807.1+261958 (OTJ213806.6+261957) July 22 time to be announced

Giving OR And and AX For top priority, please monitor both of these upcoming campaign targets. The dwarf nova HS 2214+2845 is 16.8V at minimum and 12.5V at maximum. According to observations in the AAVSO International Database, the most recent outburst of the WZ Sge-type variable 1RXS J213807.1+261958 was in May 2010, when it reached visual magnitude 8.8, and it has been observed as faint as 20.993V (GFB, B. Goff, Sutter Creek, CA) and is currently <17.3V (S. Dvorak, Clermont, FL).
