AAVSO member Dr. Matthew Craig will present a Python Workshop on November 3, 2023 prior to our 112th Annual Meeting. Thanks to a grant from Astropy the cost of the full day workshop for registered Annual Meeting participants is only $50. Seats are limited in both the in person workshop and the online workshop.
This workshop will introduce you to using Python for photometric data analysis with Python. It will include instruction in how to install and run Python. The emphasis will be on getting practice with tools for performing photometry and on using photometric data you already have for additional analysis. We will touch on methods for doing period analysis, retrieving astronomical data from sources like VSX, and basic plotting.
Participants will receive a survey a few weeks before the workshop to allow it to be tailored to the interests of attendees. No prior Python experience is necessary. Attendees are encouraged to bring data with them. The workshop is best done on a laptop. In particular, a tablet will not provide a great experience.
