Just getting started on photometry and I am going through the IRIS beginner (v. 5.59) tutorial and hoping someone can help me- I'm stuck. Everything goes Ok up to step 4. In step 4a, (Sequence CFA Conversion) I enter everything exactly as in the tutorial : generic Input name= img-cal, output name = img-cal-conv, number =3 (I created three files from the sample data file).

When I press OK,  I get :  File c:\img-cal1.fit not found

What have I done wrong? I thought all the saved files were PIC files (I checked in my designated file to save things, and all the master dark, flat, and image files are PICs.

I have searched these pages for clues and have no idea how to proceed. Can anyone help?

Seems like a powerful program if only I can get through the learning curve...Thanks for any suggestions!

Setting Dialog

Hi!

You will probably have to have a look at the File->Settings (or Preferences?) dialog. In this dialog, IRIS gets the information about working directory (you probably don't want to clutter your c:\ root directory) and the default file type (PIC, FITS). I usually work with fits , probably doesn't matter as long as it is done consistently).

IRIS Question

If you have not alread done so, you might check to be sure you didn't accidently mistype the "img" or "cal" names during a previous step. Dan

Thanks

Dan and Bikeman, many many thanks---I think my settings somehow changed to FIT and that was the problem- works now!
