Over the last few hours this afternoon, I have encountered errors when I have tried to enter VPHOT through the AAVSO website.  Is it offline?  Any word about when it will be back?

Yes, VPHOT is offline

I sent a copy of the error message we are all getting to Geir. With any luck he will see the report and figure out a solution before too long. No estimate on when it will be up. Sorry.

vphot offline

Hi John,

HQ is aware that VPHOT is offline; we'll get it back online as soon as possible.  We ask that everyone be patient.

And we're back

Sorry about that.

The free space on the server system disk was running low. Note that it is not related to the amount of images uploaded, or even the use of the system. The problem is that for each operating system upgrade a certain amount of disk space is used for backing up changes (this all happens automatically). Over the years this becomes significant, and a manual clean-up is required.

We should be back to normal now.

VPHOT memory issue again

Looks like we have run into the ceiling of our capacity again. VPHOT will be offline until Geir can clear some space.

Things VPhot users can do?

1)  Does it help to make space if VPHOT users download and delete images in their account?

2)  Does it help this issue to donate $$ to support the AAVSO expenses for the cloud storage?

3)  I know when people use the Amazon link on the homepage banner to go shop at Amazon that the AAVSO makes money it normally applies to the cloud storage.  It is a little thing one can consider doing as part of their online shopping habit to make the AAVSO some $$.

VPHOT back online

VPHOT is back online again.

It will not help deleting images. Donating money might help tough, a server instance with a larger system disk would do the trick :-)
