Where do my uploaded images go? Why do they not appear in my available image list?

Some VPhot users have recently reported that when they upload their images with the new drag and drop scheme, the transfer proceeds as expected but the images do not appear in their available image list. In order to debug this situation, George and I would appreciate some additional information to help discover the cause. We need BOTH positive and negative respondents to figure this out.

  1. Do you normally use the Quick Upload or Upload Wizard tool?
  2. Do you currently find that your images are uploaded but are not found in your Image List? (Yes or No)?
  3. If yes, does the upload/transfer failure happen all the time or infrequently?
  4. Have you ever successfully uploaded your images with the new drag and drop schemes? (Yes or No)?
  5. What software do you use to collect your images?
  6. What software do you use to calibrate (BDF) your images?
  7. What software do you use to plate-solve your images?
  8. Are all of the Fits Headers required by VPhot found in your images? In other words, IF you try the Upload Wizard, does it indicate that all these headers are present?  Yes or No?
  9. If all headers are not present, do you add them. Yes, No or NA?
  10. Do you have your Telescope settings properly entered in VPhot (under admin/telescope) and specifically is the VPhot “Display Name” identical to the “TELESCOP header” in your image fits headers? Yes or No?

Your response is appreciated. We need responses both from users who have successfully uploaded/received the images in the image list, and those who have not. Please copy the ten questions from this forum post and copy them into your response post in this thread. Fill in the appropriate responses to each question in your post. I have started this process by providing my own responses as requested.

Thanks, Ken

VPHOT NOT PUTTING IMAGES INTO THE QUEUE

Ken,

I did notice for the files which failed, while VPHOT was uploading the file it was 12.3MB but they have been 49MB. Looks like AIJ has changed the image file size. I am guessing the problem is in my image file. I'll need to see what happened. I answered your questions so as to provide more data.

  1. Do you normally use the Quick Upload or Upload Wizard tool?  Upload Wizard
  2. Do you currently find that your images are uploaded but are not found in your Image List? (Yes or No)?  Yes, for some files
  3. If yes, does the upload/transfer failure happen all the time or infrequently? infrequently
  4. Have you ever successfully uploaded your images with the new drag and drop schemes? (Yes or No)? Yes
  5. What software do you use to collect your images? I am using a DSLR storing the images on a card. I process with Iris and then use AIJ to edit the header.
  6. What software do you use to calibrate (BDF) your images? IRIS
  7. What software do you use to plate-solve your images? Photometry.net
  8. Are all of the Fits Headers required by VPhot found in your images? In other words, IF you try the Upload Wizard, does it indicate that all these headers are present?  Yes or No? If you are referring to Step 3 then YES
  9. If all headers are not present, do you add them. Yes, No or NA? Yes
  10. Do you have your Telescope settings properly entered in VPhot (under admin/telescope) and specifically is the VPhot “Display Name” identical to the “TELESCOP header” in your image fits headers? Yes or No? Yes it is properly entered in Vphot. Great question! I just re-uploaded images of two different stars, one image each. One image was successful but the other was not. I compared the two FITS headers and noticed the image which failed did not list the TELESCOP in the header. I do not enter the TELESCOP info into the header since I select the telescope when using the Upload Wizard. I looked at other headers for images which uploaded successfully and they did include the TELESCOP but I did not include it in the headers prior o uploading.
