    Hi

I know that folks have been discussing windows 10 ; but has anybody been having issues running Ap4win, I have tried everything and I still cannot run

this program. The fault relates to registration, ocx files. I have contacted Richard Berry and the AP4Win forum but I havehad no replies.

I use a laptop with windows 7 which AP4win works perfectly, and the I store the data on my main computer which runs on windows 10.

Curiously, every time there an windows 10 update I have to reinstall my canon printer software, everything else works even sky 6 , but not Ap4win.

This is has been going for sometime, I am thinking of installing windows 7 on my main computer.

Aip4win install

   Hi Gordon

Thankyou for your down load. I will try it later. I using my windows 7 computer at the moment.

I must admit that I had AIPWIN working once on windows 10, but didn`t last long. It seemed to work quite  rapidly then froze and packed up. Very strange.

AIP4WIN working well on Windows 10

Steve,

I had the same experience - AIP4WIN v. 2.4.8 worked fine for the first 4-5 months under Windows 10, then one day stopped working.  I ended up doing a total system reset to get it working again.  The updated installation instructions from last month (which I hadn't seen when I had my problem) seem to be getting all positive feedback at the yahoo AIP4WIN forum, so I expect they will work for you.

Win 10/AIP4WIN

I've been using an old version (1.4) of AIP with Win 10 for months now with no problems whatsoever.

No Go with AIP4Win on a Windows 10 computer

I have been working with Perry (the owner of Willman-Bell) for several months now with no success. I did get it to work for 2 sessions but not since then. So I just loaded it up on my old XP laptop and it works fine. Still it is frustrating when something you use a lot will no longer work! I have used this new technique with no success. So if someone else comes up with a solution please post it!

Brute force reset to get AIP4WIN running on Windows 10

Paul,

I did a full reset of my system and got AIP4WIN to run about 4 weeks ago when it stopped working on Windows 10.   It has worked great since. The problem is you need to reinstall all your applications if you use this approach.  No user data is lost off your disk, but it took me about 2 hours to re-install all my apps.  If you want details on how to do this, let me know and I'll send you more information.

 Hi Gordon
I would be

 Hi Gordon

I would be interested in your approach to the problem as I have tried many ways. I had aip4win work last year for about 2 days. It was runining unaturally fast for some reason and then stopped, and I have never been able to get it to work since, except on my other computer which runs on win 7. The old version of aip4win 1.8 works perfectly on win 10. If you wish to contact me my mail is stevejon@btinternet.com.

AIP4WIN Vs Win 10

  HI Paul

I have tried the new instructions and after 10 attempts it will not work. I have it on my old computer with win 7 and it works. The old 1.8 version works on win 10; the old ocx files can be replaced by the win 10 ocx files, but there is a clash between the ocx files in the new version of aip4win and the ocx files in win 10. I wonder if Perry could remove the ocx files in the new apwin and replace them with the old ones, it might work thensmiley

AIP4Win web registration problem

AIP4WIN did work for me even on Win 10 (with some reinstallations), but today, after the latest Windows update, I again had to register the copy (nothing unusual, happend a lot on Win 10 after updates) but today the Web service doing the registration seems to be offline. I hope it's not offline for good (I cannot find AIP4WIN in the publisher's catalog anymore.....which would make sense given the Win 10 problems).

So is this End Of Life for AIP4Win?? If there is someone here with a connection to the publisher, maybe we can have the registration service back to at least finish our photometry work which we started in AIP4WIN before going somewhere else ;-(

Still working on Win 10..

I've had the same problem of needing to re-registers after some of the automatic Windows 10 updates, but everything is working for me right now.  Haven't had to re-register in the past few days so I'm not sure about the AIP4WIN register server being offline.

I uploaded the most recent copy of installation instructions I received last spring for installing AIP4WiN under Windows 10.  Once this didn't work, but then I installed in safe mode - subsequently it worked.

AIP still gives me more flexibility to get time series processed than any other tool I've found, especially in crowded fields.  Hopefully it will keep working!

Win10 vs AIP4Win V2.4.8

Hi Steve

I have been running on Win10 for over a year now.  i did have initial issues; but following the suggestions on the AIP forum I have not had any issues even after multiple Win10 updates.

There is hope; stay with it:)

Future of AIP4WIN

Thanks for the feedback.

In the meantime I found this interesting statement on the future of AIP4WIN.

https://britastro.org/node/8558

So there is long time hope, but I certainly wish that the registration server will get available again even before the new edition comes out "in a few month" ;-)

AIP4Win Issues

Steve,

I have had a lot of problems getting AIP4Win installed and working.  Sometimes it would work then there would be a Win 10 update then the program would stop working.  The last trouble I had was getting the message:  “component comdlg32.ocx or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid”.  I tried to correct by checking to see if comctl32.ocx was in the C:\windows\system32 folder(it was).  Then I tried to register it by running regsvr32 comctl32.ocx (at an elevated command prompt).  Still no success.  I still kept getting the same message.  I decided to create another admin account on my computer and then install AIP4Win under that new admin account.  I got the message again but when I clicked ok the program started.  I went back to my original account and the program was there and started normally.  So far it appears to be running fine.

Yeah I got that problem

Yeah I got that problem sorted out, the program starts up ok, but after each major Windows update it requires me to fill out the registration form again...and this time it won't complete the online registration. Even the Web-form based registration procedure ends with an "Internal Server error", so I really think the problem is at the publishers' website at https://www.willbell.com/

Registration works again

....after about a week of outage. Quite honestly this is making me very reluctant to keep relying on AIP4Win for photometry reduction....
