A Gaia DR1 source (17:34:08.90 -43:05:50.5, G= 18.68 mag) is 0.7" from the transient's reported position.

ASAS-3 recorded a few outbursts at this position (ASAS 173408-4305.8), two of them reaching V= 13 mag.

Time-resolved photometry and spectroscopy are urgently required.

Clear skies,
Patrick
