Hi all

Please use this forum topic to post about what you see as development priorities for VStar.

Along with the ticket list, this will help me decide what features, bugs, and plug-ins to tackle first.

GAIA DR2

David,

I have recently been looking at the photometry data from GAIA DR2 for a few stars.  A query of their database can include a link to a service that provides the 3 filter photometry as an XML document.  I think it would be great to be able to paste this link into VStar and load these data like any other source.

best regards

VO queries

Hello all,

to me it sounds that more general VO connectivity would help a lot (there is much more sources than just Gaia, more coming).

Filter names in Flexible File Format; .csv export

I would love to see the ability to use custom filter types in the flexible file format, and control the plot colors.

I would also appreciate the ability to export .csv files of phase or model outputs.

Model, Residual or Phase values can be saved by selecting the Model or Residuals tab and using File -> Save... (or click the disk button in the toolbar). Select Simple format.

Same thing for Phase values except that you create a phase plot and then select the Observations list tab.

I'll let Max respond re: custom filter types and colors since he wrote that plugin.

Thanks

Thanks for your kind words. As with most software, it's not perfect and there is always plenty more to do.

I meant to add that you can control plot colors via Preferences as well.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Selection of period by "normal" date and not only in Julian time

Hello David,
As already discussed, having the possibility when opening VStar to be able to select a star by "normal" date in UT and not only in Julian would in my opinion be an advantage for the easier use of VStar. A bit like https://www.aavso.org/LCGv2/ which offers both possibilities.
