Is something wrong with the VSP? Its' really slow when making charts and since yesterday evening I get this message:

The VSP is still not working. Can someone fix it?
It works for me, took about 10s or so to generate a plot just now. It is typically slower than this, more in the 20s range which I just assumed was normal (but it is a bit slow).

What are you trying to plot? You might be asking VSP to do something difficult!
Tell us the RA/Dec, FOV and magnitude depth that you are trying to plot.

A chart at B scale (180', mag 11) is going to be tough. That's a crowded field
All you can do is stop the FOV down to 60 and raise the magnitude limit.

Tough? You are kidding. I made in the past hundreds of charts with no problems . There is a problem with the plotter.

I'm not entirely surprised the new VSP is slower than the old for charts of this scale -- it is using a different star catalog, and retrieving it from Vizier as needed to construct charts.
I am surprised it is failing in this case; though this is a rich star field, most of the stars are fainter than 11th magnitude, so that shouldn't be an issue.
It will take a little while to track down the problem.
In the meantime, a workaround is to increase the size of the chart just a touch, e.g. to 181 arcmin. This will force the software to use a local copy of bright stars rather than retrieving stars from Vizier.
So, thanks for reporting this, and thanks, George, for your suggestions and for calling the issue to my attention.

At the moment it's back working but slow. I tried to increase the FOV to 181 arcmin but that is not faster. Anyway, at the moment the waiting time is shorter than it was this morning.
VSP not working again, getting the 'oops' message. We need it working to finish off the SNEWS project!
