"I had been a casual observer of the deep sky for a number of years when I met Clint Ford in the 1980s during one of his visits to Ford Observatory in California, near where I lived. I enjoyed variable star observing right away and learned a great deal from Ford. Later, as I attended AAVSO meetings I enjoyed the interesting people and sense of purpose that came from the observing. It’s a wonderful organization of those who love the many facets of observational astronomy. I joined the Council in order to pay forward my support of all that the AAVSO does."
