AAVSO Alert Notice 743 announces a campaign on the classical nova V603 Aql (N Aql 1918). Please see the notice for details and observing instructions.

There are threads for this campaign under the following forums:

- Campaigns and Observation Reports: https://www.aavso.org/v603-aql-campaign
- Novae: https://www.aavso.org/v603-aql-campaign-01

- Spectroscopy: https://www.aavso.org/v603-aql-campaign-02

Please subscribe to these threads if you are participating in the campaign so you can be updated by the astronomer and by HQ. Join in the discussion or ask questions there!

Many thanks, and Good observing,

Lots of Osscillations in V603 AQL

Hello! I imaged V603 AQL last night for 4 hours. Lots of oscillations in brightness.

I'll be curious to see what results others obtain so that I can double check my data. Best regards.

Thank you Mike

Hi Mike,

Thank you very much for your observations.

You're right. V603 has many oscillations. Flaring, flickering as well as positive and negative superhumps.

I will try to attach an example light curve somewhere.

Thanks again

V603 Aql observing campaign

I too imaged V603 Aql May 13th for 4.5 hours.

Like Mike I observed very interesting curve.

Also, this was my first contribution to AAVSO database. Hope I got it right and it's useful ;)

Thank you John

Hi John,

It's a remote observatory in Spain (could not do any imaging here in Finland now because of summer break).

Scope is Esprit 100ED with 0.75 reducer and camera is  ATIK 460EX.

V603 Aql

Hi John,

I have started to follow V603 Aql from ROAD on clear nights.

I hope my way of observing (cycling several stars) is also useful for this object.

Thank you Josch

Hi Josch,

Thank you very much for the observations, they will definitely be useful.

I have also used some of your data from 2013, so I thank you for these also.

Kind regards

John

Clear weather at last

Hi all, Finally after many days of waiting I was able to image V603 Aql last night/this morning for nearly 6 hours. Projects like this one are hard to produce consecutive nights of results due to our mixed up weather in this part of the world - Northern Tasmania. It was great to run nearly all night. Great to see a main curve come out of the photometry, not smooth like some I've seen and I think I read previously - due to flaring - anyway, look forward as usual to reading more about this research.

cheers to all, Merv

Thank you Merv

Hi Merv,

Thank you for your observations and I'm glad you've had some clear skies.

The weather has been pretty terrible in Qld all year, but starting to get some clear nights.

Cheers

Updated my data

Hello,

I'm using ASTAP and just Installed new photometric catalogue for it.

About it:
"contains the calculated Johnson-V magnitude and colour information (GBp-GRp) for star.annotations".

I rerun my older data from May 13th through it and got much better data which is more consistent with other data.
Deleted my old observations and uploaded fresh set.

Cheers

V603 AQL Contributions from OAAA

Good day.

I just uploaded my DSLR TG measurements of V603 Aql for May 13 and 16, 2021 to the AAVSO Webobs. My observation wasn't long enough though due to some weird equipment issues but I hope it remains useful.

Best regards and clear skies.

V603 Aql observations stopped

I have stopped observations of this target based on recommendations from CBA (Center of backyard astrophysics). All my data have been uploaded to the AAVSO database.

Campaign close

Hello all,

The AAVSO V603 Aql campaign has officially closed. The amount data collected over this is truly impressive. I am sure this collection will prove invaluable to any future studies on this object.

I would like to thank all observers one more for their efforts over the campaign. Your dedication is inspiring.

Kind Regards

John Myles
