HST

October 10, 2012: Dr. Boris Gaensicke (leader of the consortium observing CVs with the HST COS instrument; see AAVSO Alert Notice 471 and AAVSO Special Notice #297 for details and instructions) writes with an urgent message:
 
"STScI would like an update on SDSS J164248.52+134751.4 by ~16UT TODAY (2012 October 10), when the star is not easily visible for most of our observers. Any observations from Europe early this evening will be most welcome."

October 6, 2012:  Following on AAVSO Alert Notice 471 (Gaensicke, Patterson, and Henden, www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-471), the second set of targets the HST COS (Cosmic Origins Spectrograph) will be observing has been announced.
 

October 5, 2012:  Following on AAVSO Alert Notice 471 (Gaensicke, Patterson, and Henden, www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-471), the HST COS (Cosmic Origins Spectrograph) far ultraviolet observations of the cataclysmic variable SDSS J164248.52+134751.4 have been scheduled for 2012 October 12 from 01:03:27 to 06:21:43 UT.

August 21, 2012: The observing campaign on V380 Oph announced in AAVSO Alert Notice 466 (www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-466) has been cancelled at the request of the principal investigators, Drs. Joseph Patterson and Arne Henden.

May 9, 2012: We have been informed by Dr. Noel Richardson, Georgia State University, that the UV spectroscopy observations of S Dor to be made with the Hubble Space Telescope have been scheduled for

2012 MAY 11 from 21:21:55 UT to 23:55:04 UT.

March 15, 2012:  As announced in AAVSO Alert Notice 454 (http://www.aavso.org/aavso-alert-notice-454), Dr. Margarita Karovska, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, has requested multiband photometry (all possible bands), high-speed photometry, spectroscopy, and visual observations of the symbiotic variable CH Cyg in support of HST and Chandra observations. She is studying the central region of CH Cyg and its jet.

Campaign continued through 2018. Also, campaign has been updated in Special Notice #417 (20160603), Special Notice #320 (20130109), Special Notice #294 (20120911), Special Notice #268, (20120323 ), and Special Notice #267 (20120315).

February 23, 2012:  Dr. Noel Richardson, Georgia State University, has requested monitoring of the luminous blue variable (LBV) prototype S Doradus as part of a multiwavelength campaign he is coordinating to study the photosphere of this star. At present the observations planned include:

1. UV Spectroscopy from HST
2. Optical spectroscopy from CTIO and an amateur in Australia
3. Near-IR Spectroscopy from SOAR (pending approval)
4. Mid-IR photometry from Gemini (pending approval)
